Lighting options have improved greatly since incandescent bulbs first came around. Instead of using lots of energy to produce a comparatively small amount of light, LED light bulbs convert most of their energy into light. It's no longer necessary to settle for CFL bulbs that take 30 seconds to warm up and turn on fully. LED bulbs turn on immediately. Additionally, because these lights last for at least 25,000 hours, homeowners can put away the ladder since they will need to replace bulbs so infrequently. TopTenREVIEWS has just released a comparison of the best LED light bulbs that are comparable to a 60-watt incandescent bulb. They looked for the LED bulbs that provide the most light, use the least amount of energy, last for the longest amount of time and make a room feel warm and naturally lit.

"LED light bulbs keep getting better. They last longer, shine brighter and continue to be less expensive. Compared to incandescent and CFL bulbs, they're more efficient, safe for the environment and you enjoy the same warm glow that an incandescent would produce," said Lecia Monsen, Managing Editor of TopTenREVIEWS.

The Top 3:

1. Philips L Prize: This LED bulb gives off an incredibly warm glow that's brighter than any other bulbs we reviewed, and it uses less energy. The Philips L Prize has successfully passed scores of government lighting tests to verify its heartiness.

2. Definity A19: Compared to many other LED light bulbs, the Definity A19 lasts twice as long. This LED light puts off a warm, even glow around the whole bulb.

3. Sylvania 12-watt: The light from this LED bulb is comparable to that of a 60-watt incandescent bulb; however, it costs a fifth of what it would to operate an incandescent.

What Makes a Top-Notch LED Light Bulb?

The best LED light bulbs provide a high number of lumens (brightness) per watt. They produce lighting colors that are warm and inviting. Additionally, the color of objects that are illuminated by this light are close to how they would appear in natural daylight conditions. These LED light bulbs should meet or exceed the industry standard lifespan for LED lights and have a reasonable-length warranty.

Features: LED bulbs should provide at least 71 lumens per watt and have a lifespan of at least 25,000 hours. The LED light should also score high on the color rendering index (CRI) because it means that the color of objects will appear more natural. The closer the CRI is to 100, the better. Additionally, verify that the bulb is UL listed and complies with the FCC regulations.

Design: Most LED bulbs are a little taller than incandescent bulbs. They are also several ounces heavier. LED bulbs can't be exposed to large amounts of moisture and are heat sensitive. For these reasons, they should not be in fixtures that fully enclose them. In outdoor conditions they should not be in direct contact with the weather. Some LED bulbs shine their light directionally. Consider using omni-directional bulbs in table lamps because they evenly distribute the light around the bulbs.

Help & Support: Since LED light bulbs are easy to install and have standard-size bases, the manufacturer will not need to assist buyers. However, if there is a problem with an LED bulb, it's good to have a manufacturer that is easy to contact and a warranty that covers at least three to five years of use.

LED light bulbs are great alternatives to other lighting options. They last long and use far less energy than incandescent bulbs. This energy-efficient option provides warm light and turns on immediately.
